Development of heat-resistant coatings

In the period of 2014-2015, specialists of the IDC Carbon company, within the framework of their own laboratory base, conducted closed R & d for the needs of JSC "COMPOSITE" (Conc. ROSCOSMOS). The main task of the work is to improve the existing thermal insulation coating based on a basic silicone composition for space launch vehicles of a predetermined type.

As part of the work carried out, 3 variants of modification of the silicone base were proposed:
- 3M microspheres
- a compound modified with fullerene soot
- microspheres with a compound modified with fullerene soot

As a result of the work performed, namely forced heating of panels treated with a certain type of composition, the following indicators were achieved:
- standard silicone base
side A = 250 degrees – side B = 186 degrees
- base modified by 3M microspheres
side A = 250 degrees – side B = 144 degrees
- base modified with a fullerene soot compound
side A = 250 degrees – side B = 116 degrees
- base modified with 3M microspheres and fullerene soot
side A = 250 degrees – side B = 72-74 degrees

RESULT of the work:
The substrate is coated with a mix of 3M microspheres and fullerene soot, makes it possible to increase the temperature resistance more than twice.
